Geotechnical & Foundation Engineering

Understanding The Ground Before You Design For It

A geotechnical investigation is the cheapest insurance a project ever buys. Cigeotech determines what the subsurface actually consists of, how it will behave under load, and which foundation solution the site genuinely requires — across infrastructure, building, energy and water projects nationwide.

  • Scoped To The Structure It Serves

A single-storey warehouse on lateritic soil and a river bridge founded in alluvium demand very different programmes. We would rather propose the right scope than the largest one, and we will tell you plainly which boreholes your project does and does not need.

Ground Investigation

Field Investigation, Laboratory Testing & Interpretation

Our field teams operate rotary and cable percussion drilling rigs, supported by hand augering and trial pitting where access is restricted. Samples return to our Kaduna laboratory under chain of custody and are tested to BS 1377 and relevant ASTM procedures.

Field Investigation

Borehole drilling to design depth with continuous logging by an engineer, Standard Penetration Testing at prescribed intervals, undisturbed sampling, trial pits and groundwater monitoring.

Laboratory Testing

Moisture content and Atterberg limits, particle size distribution, compaction, CBR, triaxial and unconfined compression, consolidation, and chemical testing for concrete durability.

Interpretive Reporting

A stratified ground model with borehole logs and cross-sections, allowable bearing capacity, settlement estimates, and a clear foundation recommendation you can design against.

Field & Laboratory Scope

  • Borehole drilling & Standard Penetration Testing (SPT)
  • Undisturbed sampling and trial pitting
  • California Bearing Ratio (CBR) & compaction testing
  • Triaxial, shear strength & consolidation testing
  • Groundwater monitoring and standpipe installation

Where This Work Applies

  • High-rise, commercial and residential developments
  • Bridges, culverts and highway structures
  • Industrial plants, silos and heavy foundations
  • Telecommunication masts and transmission towers
  • Water treatment works, reservoirs and dams
